I recently finished a full interior redecoration on a lovely house in Hickling, a quiet village just outside Melton Mowbray. The property had been hit by unexpected flooding — water had come up through the street drains and made its way into the home, leaving quite a bit of damage behind.
The homeowner needed help getting things back to normal, and that’s where I stepped in, here are some more details about the project and pictures of the end result.

The job involved quite a few key areas of the house, including:

Preperation Is Key
First, it was all about preparation. I repaired damaged walls and ceilings, using a dust-free Festool sanding system to keep everything clean and tidy. This step is so important for achieving a smooth finish — no shortcuts here.
Some rooms had areas of fresh plaster, so I gave those a proper base coat before moving on to paint. I used three coats of mid-sheen emulsion throughout most of the home for a clean, bright look that will hold up beautifully over time.
The Kitchen – A Real Transformation
The kitchen was by far the biggest challenge. It’s a large, extended space — and the original plastering wasn’t great. There was a lot of work involved in getting it right: filling, sanding, and smoothing out imperfections before painting.
In the end, I used Johnstone’s Trade Perfect Matt in white on the ceilings, which really helped lift the space and give it a fresh, modern feel. It’s amazing what a good finish can do for a room!
Final Result
Now that the work is finished, the home looks completely refreshed. The spaces are brighter, cleaner, and more inviting. The client was really pleased — and seeing everything come together after the flood damage was incredibly rewarding.
